A book on better breathing for horn players would not be complete without practical exercises to help assimilate the information in the text. There are 10 exercises in all. A sample of the first five are shown above. Each exercise has instructions on how to pace inhalations and exhalations during the rests.
It is often said that, “timing is everything.” And with good reason! The beginning of each exercise offers a reminder to subdivide the notes AND rests. Subdividing is a key to properly coordinating all the movements of our breathing structures.
